Tolland and Tomkins are two young people skilled in information technology systems struggling to secure work; they think the FBI is blocking opportunities for them to sell the revolutionary idea of quantum computing after their involvement in a previous investigation. The Pope is briefed on falling attendance figures for the Catholic Church, disagreement on a way forward amongst the traditional and progressive factions leads to dissonance on the potential for meaningful reformation; he decides for the Catholic Church to sponsor communication development with significant investment of funds, whilst he prepares for an upcoming tour of North America. Special Agent Dredski of the FBI is charged with the security of the Pope starting his North American tour in San Francisco, and is increasingly convinced that the FBI is being manipulated by an external influence, as all parties converge on a collision course in a San Francisco stadium.
