Resilience, Crisis and Change Margaux Rouf
Resilience, Crisis and Change
Margaux Rouf
If well anticipated and managed, crises can be opportunities for organizations that are resilient and willing to change. This is the case of the city of Charlotte, NC, which in the 1990s successfully recovered from the crisis that affected it. This resilient city managed the crisis very well and implemented the necessary changes so that a crisis of this type would not happen again. This is not the case for Andersen, a leader in its field, which, affected by the Enron scandal, did not recover and was dismantled. Andersen's structure was not resilient and the firm did not have the means to manage the crisis properly. By contrasting these two cases, we can say that organizational resilience is necessary for good crisis management and the implementation of changes, and therefore for its sustainability.
