Stylistic Study of Indian Newspaper Headlines Sanap Sanjay

Newspapers are the effective medium of mass communication. Newspaper headlines constitute a variety of a language which maintains 'economy of language. Headlines communicate the messages quickly and effectively to large masses. Headlines as the display window of newspaper send these messages faster than the news stories. Newspaper headlines have evolved as a registral variety by its use of specific linguistic and stylistic features. Newspaper headlines of each newspaper maintain their own style. Even in the same newspaper ,headlines of Breaking News , Sports News, Business News and Articles have their own distinctive style. The present study aims at investigating the stylistic features which constitute the style of newspaper headlines.
