This the second to be published in a series of chemistry, physics, and science unit textbooks, the first having been on the subject of Oil. They are designed to support the work of the Mountain Word Academy with homeschooling families, co-operatives, and consortia. This unit textbook on metals addresses the the biblical history of metals in the Bible, and then the uses and extraction of well-known metals through history, as well as modern extraction methods. the course gives a brief introduction to metallic bonding. There is also a section with a criticism of evolutionary theories on the formation of metals. The book will be a useful pre-course, before studying the chemistry of different metallic groups. The author acknowledges the influence of the old English chemistry curriculum, known as Salter's Chemistry. This use and process led course, while designed for a secular audience, seems inherently appropriate for a biblically-based science education series. The author, Paul F. Taylor, BSc MEd, is the Director of the Mount St Helens Creation Center, in Washington state, USA. He has a long experience in education, having spent nearly 20 years in government schools in the UK teaching science and technology. He is the author of Where Birds Eat Horses and Web Development 101 - two previous homeschool courses. Paul is married to Geri. Between them they have five children and two grandchildren - with another grandchild shortly on the way!
