Do you know the name of horses at its different stages in life? A horse less than one year old is called a foal. If it's one to two years old it is called a yearling. A male horse under four years old is called a colt while a female horse under four years old is called a filly. A horse reaches its maturity at four years old. A four year old male horse that has not been castrated is known as a stallion while a four year old female horse is called a mare.
