What is a Planthopper? Is it a plant or an animal?



The Planthopper is an insect that hops - as you can already tell by its name. Hopping is its main method to get from one plant to another.



In a way, the Planthopper is very similar to the grasshopper (which you are probably more familiar with). They hop in the same way.



This species is also called Planthopper because it looks like a plant. More specifically, it looks like a part of a plant. Because of this, it can easily blend in among the leaves and plants in its environment.



If you are familiar with Leafhoppers, know that Planthoppers are closely related to them. That's also the reason they look quite the same (but not exactly the same).
