One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Southern Right Whale is their series of whitish or yellowish callosities. These callosities are rough patches of skin. According to authorities, each callosity pattern is unique, just as each person's fingerprints are unique.

These individually unique callosities are used for the identification of individual Right Whales. Isn't that awesome!
