Baree, a young wolf-dog, is separated from his blind wolf mother and black dog father in the harsh Canadian wilderness. With only his instincts to guide him, he learns about nature and wild life through trial and error - fighting with owls and playing with beavers. Alone in the wilderness, he desperately seeks to join a pack of wolves. However, they see him as a dog, and he is driven away. The wolves are treacherous but Baree soon discovers that humans can be much worse. He is shot, beaten, and trapped, and is forced to learn survival skills. After fighting alone against the world, he befriends a young Indian maiden, Nepeese, and finally finds his purpose in life. Baree: The Wolf-Dog is one of James Oliver Curwood's most cherished works.
