The vicious wolf Gray Cloud has a price of $2,500 on his head when Dave Reagan, considered little better than a half-wit, finds the monster held fast in his traps. Something in the fearless animals eyes keeps Dave from killing the wolf. Instead he rescues Gray Cloud from a fire and brings him home. He chains the wolf in a shed, expecting his cousins to finally show him some respect as a result of this feat. But as far as they are concerned, it is time to put a bullet in Gray Cloud and claim the reward. What they dont anticipate is Daves objection to their plan. Dave escapes with Gray Cloud into the wilderness, where the two become indelibly attached. Even there, however, they are not safe from the reaches of man.
