Part of *the Jean-Pierre Leloir 180 gram vinyl Collection*, As the original album's title indicates, *Together for the First Time* marked the first collaborative album by the legendary jazz giants **Louis Armstrong** and **Duke Ellington**.

The album was warmly received at the time of its release in 1961, with *Down Beat* giving it a rating of four and a half stars. **Don DeMicheal** wrote: "Most of the credit for the quality of the date must go to **Ellington**, whose presence evidently brought out the creative powers that **Armstrong** still possesses." The 1957 version of *"Do Nothin'Till You Hear From Me"* has been added as bonus track.
