Toronto’s sprawling indie collective Broken Social Scene have announced their long-awaited return with their first full-length studio album in nearly a decade.

Remember The Humans marks a significant homecoming for the band, reuniting them with David Newfeld, the legendary producer behind their era-defining early works, You Forgot It in People and the group’s 2005 self-titled LP. The recording process was born out of a renewed creative "hurricane" between Newfeld and co-founder Kevin Drew, but it was also forged in a time of shared vulnerability; both Drew and Newfeld lost their mothers during the sessions. As Newfeld reflects, "Our moms would have wanted us to do this, and get it right after 20 years of not working together."

Across twelve tracks, Remember The Humans captures the chaotic beauty and maximalist ethos that first defined the collective. The arrangements are dense and enveloping - a lattice of horns, guitars, voices, and electronics - yet melody remains sovereign. While the music occasionally drifts into the abstract, it is always anchored by a grounding humanity, serving as a "quiet alarm" to remember the fragile, analog beings at the center of a hyper-connected world.

As ever, Broken Social Scene operates as a community rather than a traditional band. While Kevin Drew leads the charge, the record features pivotal contributions from longtime collaborators including Feist, Lisa Lobsinger, and Hannah Georgas. Band member Charles Spearin notes that the record reflects a "different kind of honesty," arriving at a life stage where loss and success have refined the band’s sound into something deeply intentional, wounded, and ultimately hopeful.
