The Creslyns were twin teenagers Ellen and Elaine Rangel, who went on to sing with The Neighborhood, a popular vocal group on the Chicago scene for many years. On the A-side of this 1963 release (Boom-Chip-A-Boom) they are backed by Russ Vestee & The Downbeats which featured songwriter/keyboardist Larry Nestor and drummer "Fast" Eddie Hoh. Hoh is starting to become a cult figure among modern drummers as he moved to California soon after this single was recorded and enjoyed a brief, but torrid run as a session ace, playing on recordings by The Monkees, Tim Buckley, Harvey Mandel, the Modern Folk Quintet and Donovan's iconic hit, "Season Of The Witch." He was also the drummer for the The Mamas & The Papas performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and featured on the historic "Super Session' album from Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills. Boom-Chip-A-Boom was written by Nestor about Hoh, who is finally getting his due as one of the finest American rock drummers of the era. The B-side (You've Been Goin' Steady Too Long) is an earlier recording from 1961 (produced by Lou Reizner and also penned by Nestor) when Ellen was recording solo as Little Ellen, that went unreleased until it was added as the flip to this Beltone 45.
