Bill Evans
Audiophile edition
Bill Evans’ releases in 1962 were still marked by the tragic death of his friend and trio colleague Scott LaFaro in the previous year. The pianist had withdrawn from the public eye, and his tendency toward self-isolation had only exacerbated his heroin addiction. It wasn’t until December 1961 that he returned to the studio to contribute to the recordings for Herbie Mann’s album “Nirvana”. Following “How My Heart Sings!” and the ballad album “Moon Beams,” the album “Interplay,” recorded a month later, was Evans’ first work in which he assembled a larger ensemble around him.
