Mute Records is happy to announce the 15th anniversary reissue of José González's Veneer for Black Friday 2018. This edition is two 180 gram color LPs in a gatefold sleeve and includes the Stay In The Shade EP on vinyl for the first time ever. Veneer includes his hit track ''Heartbeats'' which has been streamed more than 200 million times on Spotify. Recorded in González' cramped Gothenburg apartment with just a four-track recorder and, later, a computer and Cubase, Veneer in fact probably couldn't have been any more honest or uncompromising. The record almost exclusively consists of voice and nylon stringe acoustic guitar, with only occasional percussion embelishments. A decade and a half later, Veneer remains utterly exceptional, from its hushed opener, ''Slow Moves'', to its fragile closer, ''Broken Arrows'', with the likes of the mesmerising ''Crosses'', the spellbinding ''Deadweight On Velveteen'' (his first single, released in 2000) and the rhythmically entrancing ''Lovestain'' still as timeless as they were all those years ago. There's not one moment of trickery or duplicity on it, just the uncompromising spirit of a truly singular talent who's never looked back since.
