Live at the 5th Ave. Coffee Shop Scott Stein
Live at the 5th Ave. Coffee Shop
Scott Stein
Recorded at an intimate solo show in the summer of 2005, 'Live at the 5th Ave. Coffee Shop' captures pianist/singer/songwriter Scott Stein showcasing his piano chops and his vocals, but most importantly - the songs. The live album features stripped-down arrangements of three songs found on his well-received 2004 'Temporary Romance' EP as well as eight brand new previously unreleased songs. The songs speak for themselves - no drums or bass to dress up the melodies, just the piano man shooting from the hip, presenting the songs the way he wrote them. The setting - Columbus's 'hub of weirdness', Victorian's Midnight Cafe - allows for a performance that is soft and sparing yet rich and warm at the same time. The songs smartly cover a wide range of topics: heartbreak ('Cliches and Coffee'), escapism ('Stars Over Memphis'), youthful twentysomething optimism ('Ordinary Days'), and even scathing yet humorous social commentary ('It Must Be Good').
