May I Come In? Blossom Dearie
May I Come In?
Blossom Dearie
Blossom Dearie was an American jazz singer and pianist born in East Durham, New York. Moving to New York in the late 1940s, she mixed with some of the rising jazz musicians of the day, including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Gil Evans. She was physically petite, with a recognizably light and girlish voice. In 1964, she recorded the album 'May I Come In?'. It was recorded (atypically for her) with an orchestra. Among the musicians are trumpeter Jack Sheldon, Shelly Manne on drums and Joe Mondragon on bass. The offering here catches her in perfect form, singing standards of the day like "Don't Wait Too Long", "I'm Old Fashioned" and "Put on A Happy Face" and a very nice "Quiet Nights" which was done around the same time by Astrud Gilberto.
