Now That's What I Call Music
Step back into one of the most exciting years in pop history – a time when the charts were filled with dancefloor anthems, global megastars and with a new wave of pop from new artists – and all on the cusp of a new Millennium. NOW - Yearbook 1999 celebrates an unforgettable year of hits with 46 massive tracks across a 3-LP set pressed on magical magenta-red vinyl.
Opening with one of the biggest pop hits and biggest debut hits of all time from Britney Spears with ‘…Baby One More Time’ – the years’ biggest seller. Another #1 chart debut from Christina Aguilera follows - along with Whitney Houston who returned with ‘It’s Not Right But It’s Okay’. Pet Shop Boys feature with one of their greatest, ‘New York City Boy’ and New Radicals enjoyed a smash with ‘You Get What You Give’. Travis feature with ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me’ – from their massive selling album ‘The Man Who’, and the side closes with ‘She’s The One’ a #1 for Robbie Williams…flip the LP over for a run of massive International superstar smashes:- Ricky Martin hit the top with ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’, Shania Twain had 1999’s best-selling album with ‘Come On Over’ – and from it ‘That Doesn’t Impress Me Much’. Backstreet Boys enjoyed a #1 with ‘I Want It That Way’ and music legends Cher, Tina Turner and Sting all hit with new tracks. Len’s ear-worm ‘Steal My Sunshine’ leads to the first LP’s closer from Groove Armada with their chill-out staple ‘At The River’…
LP2 opens with a pair of ‘99’s chart-toppers: Lenny Kravitz hit #1 with ‘Fly Away’ – and 17 years after their last original hit, Blondie returned and scored a #1 with ‘Maria’. Texas had one of their biggest hits with ‘Summer Son’ and the Pretenders were back with ‘Human (Tin Tin Out Mix)’. Next up, The Cardigans begin the discs’ closing trio of alt-pop that also features Manic Street Preachers and Suede…Whilst on the other side…there’s a celebration of the years’ dance-pop smashes from Alice Deejay, Vengaboys, Basement Jaxx and #1’s from ATB, Wamdue Project and Armand Van Helden feat. Duane Harden…and to close LP2 sophisticated dance-pop nuggets from Moloko and Jamiroquai…
1999 was a stellar year for slick R&B production and two of the best examples open the final LP: TLC with the massive ‘No Scrubs’ and Whitney Houston making a second appearance on the collection with the title track from her album ‘My Love Is Your Love’.
R.E.M. released one of their most beautiful tracks, and Moby had a hit with ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’ – one of 8 singles from his huge selling album ‘Play’. More dance classics complete the side; Fatboy Slim hit #1 with ‘Praise You’ and is featured along with Chicane feat. Moya Brennan, William Orbit with the remix of his version of ‘Barber’s Adagio For Strings’ and The Chemical Brothers with ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’…which takes us to the final side… and it’s a hit-packed journey through some of ‘99’s biggest pop tunes – opening with the #1 cover of ‘Tragedy’ from Steps alongside S Club’s debut ‘Bring It All Back’, Five’s biggest hit (and #1) ‘Keep On Movin’ and A1’s opener ‘Be The First To Believe’. *NSYNC hit with ‘I Want You Back’ and Britney Spears followed up her debut with ‘Sometimes’ – which leads into the final pair of songs – both ballads: 911 had a massive hit with their cover of ‘A Little Bit More’ and signing off, Westlife with their third consecutive #1 in 1999 with one of their signature songs ‘Flying Without Wings’…
NOW – Yearbook 1999: A giant year for huge singles from an incredible diversity of artists – enjoy and celebrate a truly magical year in pop.
