The Moth
Devin Townsend
The Moth is the long-anticipated new project from visionary Canadian musician, composer and producer Devin Townsend. Years in development, the album represents one of the most ambitious undertakings of his career: an expansive rock opera conceived on a symphonic scale and built around a narrative that traces the arc of human existence.
Described by Townsend as a deeply personal and large-scale composition, The Moth tells the story of the human experience “from birth to death,” unfolding through a sequence of interconnected musical movements that blend progressive metal, orchestral arrangements and choral elements.
The scope of the album extends beyond a conventional studio release. In 2025, the rock opera premiered in a special live production at De Oosterpoort in Groningen, performed with the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and choir, bringing Townsend’s elaborate vision to life in a full orchestral setting.
