Mark Masters latest excursion combines the legacies of Charles Mingus and Gerry Mulligan. Both were masters of their respective instruments and prolific composers. Both came from very different backgrounds but were linked by a common viewpoint of how the improvised and written note can inspire and inform. Masters arrangements are tailored for his musicians and he always utilizes their unique talents in his writing which creates a magical vibe in the music. Blue Skylight is a montage that allows for the expression of individualism for not only the players, but also the listener.
