Made-for-television dramatisation of the Biblical story, directed by Raffaele Mertes. Suffering under the rule of the Romans, the people of Jerusalem look forward to the arrival of the Messiah, who they believe will lead them to freedom. Widower Joseph (Tobias Moretti) agrees to marry 14-year-old Mary (Stefania Rivi), a local couple's daughter, whom they wish to see protected.
