French comedy of manners directed by Jean Renoir, in which he also stars. André Jurieux (Roland Toutain) has just crossed the Atlantic in his plane and receives a hero's welcome upon landing in France. He is met by his friend Octave (Renoir) and together they attend a weekend retreat hosted by the Marquis de la Chesnaye (Marcel Dalio), the husband of the woman André loves.

At a masked ball, a series of romantic liaisons, rivalries and misunderstandings end in tragedy - though it is of little care or consequence to the bourgeoisie. The ensemble cast also includes Nora Grégor, Paulette Dubost, Mila Parély and Julien Carette.
