This is the third murder/mystery involving Milo Herskovitz and Missus Gurley. Milo, a young, geeky, computer-store owner living in the small town of Dorado, Florida, has just returned from a mini-vacation in gulf-coastal Clear River, Florida, where he, once again, has barely survived death because of Missus Gurley's insatiable drive to resolve crimes.
Missus Gurley, a dead woman, having moved her memories and self into a cellphone, is again out of control. Seemingly, she has escaped the forever-searching eyes of DARPA, a defense advanced research agency, where she was employed while alive. DARPA has determined from the DNA of her body in the Dorado cemetery that she is truly dead. However, one agent continues to hang around Dorado, supposedly being there to protect Milo from potential foreign entities.
Greed for a hoard of money in Mirror Lake Retirement Village threatens the quiet of that community. A price is paid, with many fingers being pointed.
The sinking of a paddlewheel steamer on the Little Big River in Mann county, Florida in 1893, with a fortune in gold and silver coins has driven many to search for it. Peter Watkins believes that he has enough clues and information. Again, greed threatens those who find the treasure.
At the same time that Missus Gurley messes with Sheriff Johnson's work, she is bored. Trapped inside the cellphone, she comes up with the idea of building a robot, in which she will live. Unfortunately, others become aware of the robot, attempting to undo her dreams.
Milo just wants peace and quiet. Yet, he cannot stop Missus Gurley's nosiness into Sheriff Ephraim Johnson's crime investigations.
