A Portrait of the creator as a Young Man tells the story of Stephen Dedalus, a boy growing up in eire at the tip of the nineteenth century, as he step by step decides to get rid of all his social, familial, and spiritual constraints to measure a life dedicated to the art of writing. As a young boy, Stephen's Catholic religion and Irish position heavily influence him. He attends a strict non secular private school known as Clongowes Wood school. At first, Stephen is lonely and nostalgic at the college, however as time passes he finds his place among the opposite boys. He enjoys his visits home, even supposing family tensions run high when the death of land politico Charles Stewart Charles Stewart Parnell. This sensitive subject becomes the subject of a furious, politically charged argument over the family's Christmas dinner.
