In the author's own words, "The present tale is based primarily on the knowledge communicated by Snorro Sturleson in that most fascinating book, "The Heimskringla, or Chronicles of the Kings of Norway." It is translated from the Icelandic. Erling's heart was glad to perceive the Danes' intention to attack him, for he now felt confident that he had them in his control to some degree.
