Kenneth Grahame began writing in 1879 as an escape from the drudgery of his job at the Bank of England. Illustrator Robert Ingpen studied illustration and book design at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1986 he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his contribution to children's literature, and he was recently honored with the Membership of the Order of Australia.
