The Voyage Out

Rachel Vinrace sets out for South America on her dad's boat and is dispatched on a course of self-revelation in a sort of current legendary journey. The befuddled tangle of travelers give Woolf a chance to mock Edwardian life. The epic presents Clarissa Dalloway, the focal character of Woolf's later novel, Mrs. Dalloway. Two of different characters were designed according to significant figures in Woolf's day to day existence. St John Hirst is an anecdotal depiction of Lytton Strachey and Helen Ambrose is somewhat propelled by Woolf's sister, Vanessa Bell. What's more, Rachel's excursion from a sheltered life in a London suburb to opportunity, testing scholarly talk and disclosure probably mirrors Woolf's own excursion from an abusive family unit to the scholarly incitement of the Bloomsbury Group.
