Jane Eyre

The successful opening night marked the climax of Wilde's career, but it also heralded his downfall. Lord Alfred Douglas, the son of the Marquise of Queensbury, is Wilde's lover, and he plans to show the writer a bunch of rotten vegetables and spoil the show. Wilde was exposed and Queensbury was denied entry. Their hatred culminated in court, and Wilde's homosexuality revealed to the Victorian public that he was sentenced to prison. Despite the early success of the play, Wilde's notoriety caused the play to be closed after 86 performances. After being released from prison, he was exiled from the play in Paris, but he did not write any comics or plays.
