Amazed Gloom Harrison Abbott
Amazed Gloom
Harrison Abbott
The police invade the estate and force a mass evacuation of its residents. A group of young men and boys form a resistance army and annex the local mall. They build camps in the huge forest behind the estate, where the police dare not go, and use them as bases to co-ordinate the war effort. Out-matched on arms by the police, they conjure ways in which to retaliate and defend against a thuggish authority which has plagued their neighbourhood for decades. Chronic is the sense of threat. The police, they all know, are capable of anything. The estate is forgotten by the city: the young soldiers are alone and despised by many. Angered that the army have taken control of the mall, the police plan a counter attack. Both sides gear up for a great battle. Amazed Gloom is part war novel, part boyhood drama, chase thriller and study of oppression.
