It is wrong to categorize Holmes and its creator merely as "Victorians" although it is true that many of the stories are set in the 1880s and 1890s, at the end of Queen Victoria's reign (1837-1901), more than Half of them were written at the beginning of the 20th century and are imbued with a more modern character.
