A Study In Scarlet (Annotated)

Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-The purpose of realizing this historical context is to approach the understanding of a historical epoch from the elements provided by the text. Hence the importance of placing the document in context. It is necessary to unravel what its author or authors have said, how it has been said, when, why and where, always relating it to its historical moment. In the eyes of many modern readers, Sherlock Holmes' stories portray the fifth essence of Victorian Britain. Holmes dresses as an English gentleman of the late nineteenth century, travels in horse-drawn cars through streets with gas lighting, and his clients are usually (though not always) wealthy members of the Victorian middle class, whose prosperity and status had increased to as a result of industrialization and the expansion of British imperial power. However, this is only one half of the story. It is wrong to categorize Holmes and its creator merely as "Victorians" although it is true that many of the stories are set in the 1880s and 1890s, at the end of Queen Victoria's reign (1837-1901), more than Half of them were written at the beginning of the 20th century and are imbued with a more modern character.
