It is a novel by the American writer Jack London. Jerry of the Islands was initially published in 1917 and is one of Jack London's last works. The novel takes place on the island of Malaita, a part of the Solomon Islands archipelago, which in 1893 became a British protectorate. The hero of the novel is the Irish terrier Jerry, who was a dog brother named Michael, about whom London wrote another novel: Michael, Jerry's brother. In the preface, Jack London tells of the Minota ship in which he traveled and which was wrecked in the Solomon Islands. Captain Kellar of the ship Eugenie rescued Jack London after the shipwreck, but later died at the hands of the cannibals. London mentions a letter he received from CM Woodford, the Resident Commissioner for the British Solomon Islands. In this letter, Woodford wrote about a punitive expedition on the neighboring island. The second objective of the operation was to search for the remains of Jack London's friends.
