The Good Soldier (Annotated)
Ford Madox Ford
Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-This book contains a historical context, where past events or the study and narration of these events are examined. The historical context refers to the circumstances and incidents surrounding an event. This context is formed by everything that, in some way, influences the event when it happens. A fact is always tied to its time: that is, to its characteristics. Therefore, when analyzing events that took place tens, hundreds or thousands of years ago, it is essential to know the historical context to understand them. Otherwise, we would be analyzing and judging what happened in a totally different era with a current perspective. The good soldier (original title in English, The Good Soldier: A Tale of Passion) is a novel by the English novelist Ford Madox Ford, published in 1915. In 1998, the Modern Library placed it 30th in its list of 100 best novels of the 20th century. Set just before the First World War, it chronicles the tragedy of Edward Ashburnham, the soldier the title refers to, and his own seemingly perfect marriage and that of two American friends. The novel is narrated using a series of flashbacks in non-chronological order, a literary technique that was part of Ford's pioneering view of literary impressionism. Ford employs the unreliable narrator device to great effect as the main character gradually reveals a version of events
