It had seemed like magic when it first started, sweeping across the world in less than 24 hours, a phenomenon that seemed to originate somewhere in the western United States in the dead of night, quickly spreading outwards to the rest of the world. By the second day, areas began to lose power, as the rapid growth knocked down power lines and invaded power transformers. Travel became more difficult as trees and branches fell across the roads or simply grew through them, splitting and upending the pavement into piles of concrete rubble. Some found that the trees had grown so thick around them that they couldn't open their doors, trapping them in their homes. Before long, the roads had become completely impassable, preventing further evacuations and aid. One by one, the network TV and radio stations went off the air. Government agencies stopped responding to calls. Planes no longer flew overhead. Only a few days had passed since the trees had first begun to appear, and most people found that they were completely on their own. That was when monstrous creatures began to emerge from the woods...
