Ken Jacobie's wartime R. A. F. assignment was to become his opportunity of a lifetime. His assignment gives him operational independence and generous resources. Opportinity, however, tempts him into corruption, taking advantage of the fog of war. He was recently married and now has a young infant son. He is assigned to command a crew of 18 aircraft technicians and they leave for Normandy, France a week after D-Day, tasked with salvaging downed allied aircraft. War is well suited to Ken Jacobie's leadership skills and opportunistic character. War also disrupts life, profoundly affecting the soldiers and their families alike. In this balancing act of making do, Maggie, Ken's wife, is seen as heroic, as a good mother, a resourceful provider and successful in finding her own inner strength.
