Fellow Cambridge scholars, Will and Rick, are making full use of their time in Paris in the dying years of the fifteenth century, but the future is already casting its shadows, marriage for Will and celibacy for Rick. Their friend, Erasmus, does what he can to alleviate a troubled situation, but the dilemma appears unsolvable. This is Tudor England, and men just don't do that sort of thing. Especially nobles and priests. The relationship seems to have been lost for ever when Will's job as tutor to the future King Henry VIII takes a surprising turn which forces him to seek the help of the priest who was once his lover. Reunited, the friends face new challenges. Will is threatened by a guilty and vengeful king, Rick tortured by his vocation to become a monk. Can many waters quench love or the floods drown it? They certainly have a good try!
