August 1945. Amid the mass wreckage of the war in the Pacific can USO band leader Ava Christine hold her all-female jazz group together while trying to create her path forward? During the weeks leading up to the invasion of Okinawa, Ava's band members, The BelleWethers, perform for a battalion of war-torn soldiers who nervously await orders to invade the mainland. However, after two years of touring the Philippines, these young women find it increasingly difficult to confine themselves in the cookie-cutter, girl-next-door image the army expects. As they challenge their roles in the war and beyond, Ava must face her complicity in perpetuating destructive notions of femininity, race, and violence. Foxhole Circuit tells the story of a ragtag battalion of angry yet vulnerable young men, a hit song that bolstered the devastation of Japan, and how a talented band of women paved their roads through the man-made thickets of World War II.
