Sydney McKenzie is living her best life on the Big Island of Hawaii, teaching at the university, swimming in Reeds Bay, and volunteering at the local zoo and animal shelter. Her carefree existence takes a disturbing turn, however, when a single event crashes over her like a rogue wave, throwing her world into chaos. Plunged into a plight for which she is ill-equipped, Sydney turns to her creature family to rescue her from the resulting loneliness and despair that threatens to consume her.
