You start by reading and playing studies in 2nd position, and gradually work your way up, position by position, to 12th position (employing all major and minor keys as you go). Whereas many exercise books' studies are rather dull or repetitious, this book exclusively employs, as studies, charming tunes originally composed as songs by blind Celtic harper and master melodist Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). An Appendix includes a discussion of such topics as notes outside the key, notes outside the position, and position shifts.
