Sense and Sensibility
Jane Austen
In this novel Jane Austen explores with subtlety and irony the options of women in a rigidly structured society where success or failure depends only on the choice of the husband. The story focuses on the life events of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne, whose antagonistic personalities exemplify the two possible female responses to the prevailing hypocrisy: he> and her> surprises by their unquestionable topicality and narrative force, which in this version we have tried to preserve the original tone and language as much as possible. Its protagonists are the young Dashwood sisters, who, from opposite characters, share the same desire for the pursuit of happiness. Elinor, calm and patient, trusts to overcome with her discretion the obstacles that prevent her relationship with Edward Ferrars. Impetuous and extroverted, Marianne, on the other hand, does not hesitate to be seduced by the seductive Willoughby. Biography of Jane Austen: Jane Austen (Steventon, December 16, 1775-Winchester, July 18, 1817) was a British novelist who lived during the Georgian era. The irony that she uses to give her novels humor makes Jane Austen to be considered among the classics of the English novel, while her reception goes, even today, beyond academic interest, her works being read by a wider audience.
