Steeped In God's Grace

Often when Proverbs 31 in the Bible is mentioned it is attached only to the qualities of a wife, singling out a particular role. Unfortunately, when looked at this way, this section of scripture might be laid aside by those who do not fit into the category of being married. Proverbs 31 is written to a young man by his mother. It is a description of what to look for when seeking a wife, or what constitutes a godly woman. It speaks of the blessings of a woman who is steeped in God's grace, doing all things for His glory. The qualities spoken of are found in one who is unmarried and married alike. Therefore, a woman desiring to follow God in all aspects should embrace the example lovingly recorded in God's word. I believe the applications are redeemable to all women regardless of their immediate position in life. The context of this study is that of recognizing the character of a woman who is a blessing to those around her. A woman desiring to grow in godliness will certainly bless her spouse, yet marriage is not the end goal. It is not the answer to loneliness, and it is not the key to fulfillment. It is a gift from God just as singleness is a gift from God. No matter your 'title' at this moment - daughter, friend, wife, co-worker, or mother - striving to follow God's direction for your life will result in blessing those around you.
