Once upon a time, there were five little girls who believed in themselves and in the women they wanted to be. One fine day they stood gazing at the fragmented remains of their wings smashed by the patriarchal society. Calmly they observed the broken, blurry pieces that silently glittered on the ground. And yet they felt so proud of their reflections and shadows that smiled back at them. The society by all means could chop off their wings but their spirits were indomitable. And though these women with a spine of steel, at times could be broken, but could never be defeated.

There is something these inspirational women all share in common: they are all warriors and continue to inspire us in our own modern lives.


Preet has a magical flow in her writing, may it be the expression of fondness, regard or the pain of losing her subject. I was extremely touched by her superior usage of simple, effective and appropriate language.
