Between the art we make and the way we contextualise it, there is a mediating figure: the artist. The artist is both me and somebody else. As artists we create art and contemplate art, we are makers and viewers. When we make an artwork we consequently construct a viewer. We operate with what you could call an internal viewer, an imaginary result of our understanding of ourselves as artists and our anticipation of the reception of our artwork.
