The Danish designer Verner Panton broke completely with the discrete cosiness characteristic of Danish design. Where other Danish furniture designers worked in wood and natural materials, Panton developed his products in plastic, fibreglass, foam rubber and synthetic materials. In this book on the work of Verner Panton - a loner in Danish design tradition - Ida Engholm, lecturer in the Centre for Design Research, describes how Panton´s cheerful pop colours and curious shapes materialised in the booming welfare environment and alternative cultures of the 1960s and 1970s.
