One of the most important categories that characterize human consciousness, determine sociology-psychological specificity of society, form the main parameters of the world image of this or that cultures a system of coordinates by the sides of the world. In modern science a side of the world is one of the four cardinal directions: north, south, west and east. According to scientists, the North Pole in the distant past was in the territory of present-day Canada. Magnetic North Pole of the Earth still remains on the territory of this country: it is shifted in relation to the North Pole by one and a half thousand kilometers towards Canada. The cognitive description of language is closely connected with cultural interpretation, and cognitive function of language finds its embodiment in the language picture of the world which is based on specific logical and linguistic units- concepts. The concepts of the North are the most important components of the national identity of the peoples of Russia and Canada.
