The earliest recorded evidence the use of herbal drugs in Indian, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Syrian texts dates back to about 5000 years. Therapeutic potential of herbal drugs particularly in India, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani etc. consists of large number of herbal remedies, being used from ancient times and having their potential therapeutic claims with their quality control specification. No doubt Herbal products have occupied a major part in curing different human ailments, but what about the quality of these products? These drugs are suffering lack of standardization parameters and proper documentation based on scientific knowledge.
