Feeding of Canola Meal on Lactating Cows: Sustainable Production of Milk

Rapeseed mustard cake (RMC) can be readily used as a protein supplement in lactating cows diet due to its availability and being cheaper than other oil cakes. The use of RMC as protein supplement is constrained due to its higher level of glucosinolates that have variable adverse effect on palatability, intake, nutrient utilization, thyroid hormone status and overall performance of the animals. The new improved varieties of rapeseed mustard cultivar which is low in both erucic acid (<2%) and glucosinolates (<30µmolg-1) are commonly known as canola and Meals obtained after the extraction of oil from these improved varieties received the common name canola meal to distinguish from the traditional rapeseed meal containing high glucosinolates. Keeping this in view, this book represent the study , to asses the effect of feeding canola meal on lactation performance and quality of milk.
