While most of African state has been described as a political and economic disaster zone, Botswana stands out as a democracy that has achieved rapid economic growth for more than three decades. The main reason behind development of Botswana is presence of diamond mines there. The Botswana government had proper utilized of this mineral resources in social sector development that?s why human development index is much better than any African countries and even India. Civil Society occupies an important position in the democratization of the state. It plays a countervailing role and keeps the state accountable to the people. Civil Society in Botswana is in its formative stages and not yet in a position to discharge its mandate effectively. However, there are other areas in which civil society has achieved measurable results in development of Botswana.
