Renal disease is one of the most complex diseases in the world today. With multiple complex causative factors, renal disease prevalence continues to be on the rise globally. Understanding the necessary care needed to mitigate the rising mortality and morbidity among the renal population remains the greatest challenge. While malnutrition is endemic and a main cause of mortality in this population; maintenance hemodialysis treatment compounds the malnutrition complex further. This book therefore;seeks to empower the nutritionist/dietitian/nurse/doctor to optimally provide all the necessary nutrition care,support and education through a detailed understanding of the renal patient nutrition care process to suit the individual patient's needs. In developing Countries the renal complexity disorder has continued to challenge and overburden the already strained medical facilities. Coupled with inadequate specialized personnel,high dialysis related costs and high poverty levels; renal disease continues to be one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Kenya and other developing countries and an emphasis on good medical-nutritional practices to retard nephropathy are necessary.
