Applying Binary Volume Models to Naval Applications: a Method to Rapidly Expand Dynamic Containment Regions While Conducting Acoustic Search
Gary Graf
Locating submerged vessels at sea is of concern to naval forces. Positional information derived from acoustic means is temporal and imprecise. Target vessel movement between detections further degrade the ability to refine position. This research developed a binary volume model for analyzing and visualizing the time dependent growth of the naval sensor information that defines a target containment region. Model development includes rapid methods for volumetric expansion and the intersection of multiple regions. The methods are intended to operate real-time in a virtual reality environment.
