Living in a fast-paced, increasingly global society, we often lose touch with our personal and collective heritage. When we forget where we have come from, we find it hard to see clearly where we are going and can easily be overwhelmed with our circumstances. Using Scandinavian immigrant culture as a backdrop, this book presents an integrated multiple intelligences approach to teaching Kindergarten and elementary students about their musical, historical, and cultural inheritance. Eight themes form the framework of this Music and Arts curriculum which raises awareness of a single specific culture through their music, dance, art, and food preferences. Student curiosity is stimulated regarding their own heritage, increasing communication with their family members and greater self-knowledge.
