The depletion of forests in developing countries hasbeen of increasing concern to policymakers over thepast 25 years. As society searches for ways toaddress climate change, deforestation has become acentral part of this discussion. This book focuses onthe causes of deforestation in common propertyforests in Mexico, presenting a detailed, empiricaleconomic analysis of forest loss in Mexico between1994 and 2000. Understanding the driving forcesbehind deforestation, and pinpointing the location offorests at risk provides crucial information fordeveloping effective forest protection policy. Theanalysis in the first part of this book provides thefoundation for a discussion of potential and actualpolicies to address deforestation in Mexico.
